I came across this by chance – 20 favourite children’s books to be read out loud. What a joy! Something special to be shared with your child! A long list I agree but you might find something to tempt you.
Octopus Socktopus – Nick Sharrat, a great illustrator too.
Hippos Go Berserk – Sandra Boynton.
Aliens Love Underpants – Claire Freedman.
I Want My Hat Back – Jon Klassen.
Peepo and Janet – Allan Ahlberg, another great children’s favourite.
We’re Going On A Bear Hunt – Michael Rosen.
Lost And Found – Oliver Jeffers.
Paper Dolls – Julia Donaldson, also known for The Gruffalo.
Mr. Magnolia – Quentin Blake. Lovely illustrations which kids love!
Hairy Maclary From Donaldson’s Dairy – Lynley Dodd.
Stick Men – Julia Donaldson.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Eric Carle. Read this to my own girls now in their 30’s.
Meg and Mog – Helen Nicoll and Jan Pienkowski.
Dear Zoo – Rod Campbell.
Where The Wild Things Are – Maurice Sendack.
Goodnight Moon – Margaret Wise Brown.
Green Eggs and Ham – Dr. Seuss whose books cross all ages.
The Elves And The Shoemaker – Ladybird First Tales.
The Tiger Who Came To Tea – Judith Kerr.
How Tom Beat Captain Najork And His Hired Sportsmen – Russell Hoban.
Phew, a long list! I doubt I will do this again! But these are lovely books and are worth a try!!
Happy Reading!!
