I seem to spend a lot of time in bookshops, just looking! Then I splurge and buy a big bag of books. But mostly, I look for new books which will appeal to our young readers. Here are the latest!
I particularly like the following:
The Boy who sailed the Ocean in an Armchair by Lara Williamson. Fabulous title!
Tim Travelling with a Hamster by Ross Welford.
Perijee and Me by Ross Montgomery. This book has a beautiful cover!
The Sleeping Prince by Melinda Salisbury, who wrote The Sin Eater’s Daughter is another stunning book but it is more suitable for young adults as there are references to adult themes.
The Lie tree by Frances Hardinge is also aimed at the more confident reader. This book is less problematic regarding content as it is set in the Victorian period and deals with young women who have ambition but are held back because of prejudice against them. This would also suit teachers whose pupils are studying the Victorians. But it is quite sophisticated in language. I really, really liked it and as there are several books by this author I will be reading more.
It is also good to see loads of David Walliams, Roald Dahl, Terry Pratchet, Usborne Illustrated Classics and old favourites, Ladybird Easy Reading Books. Yes, they are making a comeback.
Happy Reading!
