16th October 2016 By Marjorie Leithead Leave a Comment

My daughter gets married on the 18th October, the day after tomorrow, and what am I doing? I am digging through my book boxes looking for Horrible History books because I have found a really good series of articles in “The Buzz”, published by Gladiator School Books.

We all know the books e.g. “Awesome Egyptians”, “Rotten Romans” and so on. But I am not really familiar with the film called “Bill” about William Shakespeare. It appears he went missing for a few years although I am not sure I believe this. After all, I wasn’t there – it was a long times ago. In the film, as few as six actors play 40 roles, which is very hard to believe. The film was released on 27th March 2015 but the box set of series 1 – 5 can be bought from www.bbcshop.com for £18.99. Very expensive but I am tempted, as I can offer it to all my schools. Not bad, eh???

Going back to the film, it took two and a half hours for the cast to be made up with big hair and boils and warts. Awful to think of it! Another astonishing thing – the video “Born to Rule” has had 1.2 million YouTube hits. All English kings and queens, I know, but kids have learned all of the words of the song which includes all the kings and queens of England from William the Conqueror to Queen Elizabeth II. There were loads!!!

Anybody out there brave enough to contact author Terry Deary, the publishers and the illustrators to ask if they might do the same for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?? I bet the actors would be willing.

For mums and dads, I have just started reading “The Fire Maker” by Peter May, the first of the six Chinese Thrillers.

Happy Reading!!
