I have just finished sticking Patron of Reading Book stickers on to all the new books destined for Eyemouth tomorrow. To show how dedicated I am, I am bringing them down on the BUS. But before I do, here are three new books which I have discovered.
The first one is Here Come The Trolls by Ron Butlin for 3-7 year olds. It’s full of rhymes and illustrations and gives us ideas about how to banish trolls if they ever invade your house and you despair of ever, ever getting rid of them. The trolls are really brought to life by James Hutcheson, the illustrator of this enchanting book.
I also think Elspeth Hart and the School for Show-Offs by Sarah Forbes deserves a mention. The cover is brilliant with great illustrations and tells the story of Poor Elspeth whose parents are washed away in a flood. With nowhere to go Elspeth is forced to go and live with her horrible aunt in the attic of the Pandora Pants School for Show-Offs. Elspeth’s miserable life soon begins to change.
I absolutely loved Alexander McCall Smith’s novel the No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. More recently he has begun a new series of adventure stories and School Ship Tobermory is about the children who go to school on the training ship Tobermory. Loads of excitement all round!
