Well here we are, back home after a great cruise on the River Rhine!!! And there are so many people out there who are reading, in cafés, at airports, on park benches, in hotel lobbies! I met so many interesting people who are reading a whole variety of different books.
For example, I met Cathy Van Dyk in Schipol Airport, Amsterdam. Cathy is from Horsham between Melbourne and Adelaide in Australia. She was reading To the Moon and Back by Jill Mansell. Then on the Viking Sun, Judith from Wokingham had so many books, too many to mention! But here are her favourites: The Kashmir Shawl by Rosie Thomas, The Saffron Trail and Return to Mandalay by Rosanna Ley and anything by Philippa Gregory. Judith loves to travel and her choice of books reflects this.
Mike and Debbie from the U.S.A. have a different approach. Debbie reads Stephen King on her IPad and Mike was the first person I had met who was reading Harpers Lee’s To Set a Watchman – the American edition, no less. Also Martha from Boston and her daughter, Laurel, from Washington D.C. are interesting. Martha carried a book around with her all the time and Laurel loves all romantic poetry by the Mexican poet, Octavian Paz. As an Assistant School Principal she is required to read academic books on education as in Savage in Equalities and Len Forkas’ What Spins in Wheel. Not sure if that is the correct title, however!
There are still so many people to mention, I will have to continue this tomorrow. Very heartening I have to say!!
